Tae Kwon Do Testing Requirements

Promotion requirements for 1st Poom/Dan (Black Belt)

 

All previous requirements learned-to-date, plus:

Pretest Requirement:

Candidate must pass overall conditioning test one month prior to test.

 

Adults: (16 years and older)

3 mile run in 24 minutes

100 consecutive push-ups (males)

50 consecutive push-ups (females)

300 consecutive sit-ups (legs are held)

Stretching – (hips must be in the same line as the feet)

Front splits 3 inches off the ground on both sides

Side splits 6 inches off the ground

Juniors:

1.5 mile jog no time limit (no walking)

50 consecutive push-ups

150 consecutive sit-ups (legs are held)

Stretching – (hips must be in the same line as the feet)

Front splits 2 inches off the ground on both sides

Side splits 6 inches off the ground

After passing pretest requirements candidate must attend additional Black Belt Candidate training of two additional hours a week, plus 3 regular classes each week.

 

1)  Poomsae:

Poomsee Koryo

Develop and perform your own form, 22-26 movements. Must write it in English and Korean.

Preform all 8 Taegeuk forms with terms

2)  Techniques:

Punches (Chireugi):

Demonstrate all thrusting hand techniques learned-to-date.

Strikes (Chigi):

Demonstrate all strikes learned-to-date.

Stances (Seogi):

Demonstrate all stances learned-to-date.

Kicks (Chagi):

Demonstrate all kicks learned-to-date.

Including: 360/Tornado, Hook, and Spin-Hook

Blocks (Makki):

Demonstrate all blocks learned-to-date.

3)  Board Break (Kyuk Pa):

3 breaks: Double Front Snap Kick (Doobaldangsung Apchagi), Roundhouse Kick (Dollyo Chagi), Jump Back Kick (Tio Dwi Chagi)

4)  Self-Defense: #1- #9

5)  1 Step Sparring: #1- #4

6) Ground Defense:

  rollover, kick away on hip & escape
& Reach up and twist neck and Pull hair roll

7)  Knowledge:

– All “knowledge” previously learned-to-date

– Count 1- 100, hana-Bek (beck), in Korean

– Know names of body parts: Neck (Mok), Fist (Jumeok), Murup (Knee), Elbow (Palkoop), Hand (Son), Sparring (Gyorugi), Attention (Charyut), Bow (Kung nea), End fight/round (Kyong nea)

– List Taeguk forms in order (1-Il, 2- Ee, 3- Sam, 4- Sa, 5-Oh, 6-Yook, 7-Chil, 8-Pal, 9-Koo, 10-Ship)

 

8)  Sparring Demonstration

2 rounds of 1-on-1 and 2 rounds of 2-on-1

 

3)  Breaking Techniques (Kyuk Pa):

(adult) Brick break using knifehand (Hansonnal) or two knuckle punch (Chireugi)

(kid) Tile break plus 4 board-breaks totaling 6 boards

4)  Knowledge:

- All “knowledge” previously learned-to-date; plus:

– A paper, clearly written or typed, using double spaces on “How your impression of Tae Kwon Do has remained the same or changed since you began your study.  Also, how have you benefited from studying Tae Kwon Do.” (Juniors) This paper should be written with the help of a parent or older family member.

- A paper on what obtaining your Black Belt means to you (400-500 words)

 

9) Demonstrate 13 block & punch/strike combinations (must write out and turn in prior to class) with Korean terminology in a straight line
