November Newsletter

Dear CTC Family,

I have often been asked, “What separates a Black Belt Student from every other student? I believe Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit (2 of our 5 Tae Kwon Do tenets) are what separates students from reaching their goal of becoming a Black Belt. To get your Black Belt you must train even when it’s difficult, you’re sore, you have too much work or homework, you drift into many other activities, difficulty handling rejection of not passing difficult tests, you don’t have the full commitment to push yourself, you lose your vision and drive.

Some helpful thoughts to keep you on track:

1) Continue to think BIG – remember when you started as a white belt you dreamed of becoming a Black Belt. That was quite an aggressive but obtainable goal.

2) Make Time – Try to get to class as often as possible but don’t stress out if you miss a class. Remember getting a Black Belt is a marathon not a sprint. Even if you stopped and practiced another sport – when you come back refocus, recommitment to your ultimate goal. (Black Belt)

3) Start to Work – Don’t start to work on your splits, push-ups, sit-ups or running when your a red belt. That is too late. If you miss a class or two make sure you stretch and work on your conditioning.

4) Do not judge or criticize yourself right away – It doesn’t matter if Susie already has her splits as a yellow belt and you don’t as a brown belt. Or if you can’t do a particular kick or board break. By pushing yourself to continually try you will succeed. We are all made differently and have certain strengths and weaknesses. Work on your weaknesses more than your strengths.

5) Pat yourself on your back – Each time you achieve a new rank or master a kick or self defense move recognize your success. Take a moment and say good job (insert your name)

Remember, anything in life that is truly worth something – takes time, commitment and effort in the face of all types of challenges.

August Newsletter

Dear CTC Family,

Wow, A little more than 3 weeks to school begins and we follow more consistent routines. We hope everyone has had a wonderful summer even though it hasn’t been our typical sunshine.

I would like to thank all our students who haven’t missed a beat (in their training) and continue to advance to becoming a Black Belt. Recently, Mr. Greg Rathbone and Riley Hanson have become Red Belts. It is quite impressive to witness everyone’s growth as martial artists.

The adult muay thai class continues to grow and our students amaze me with their hard work and improved skills.

I will be having hernia surgery the first or second week of August. Hopefully, I will only miss a day or two but I will be somewhat limited for at least a month. (4 – 6 weeks) Happily, Mr. Greg, Mr. Garrett, and Ms. Donelle will continue to assist in leading the classes. I’m proud of their continued development and importance to providing quality training at CTC. Sadly for us, but exciting for her, Ms. Annie will be on vacation for August and then off to college.

We will be adding some other trainers in September to support our new classes. Renee Cavanaugh will be running a Boot camp Saturday mornings 8:00am and Brian Woods will be leading our returning Boxing program. Additional classes and trainers are planned but haven’t been finalized.

These are exciting times at Coronado Training Center. A beautiful new facility with great views for our viewing families and a much improved training area for our students. We continually purchase new equipment to ensure top notch facilities and training.

July Newsletter

Dear Tae Kwon Do Members &Parents,

I am happy to announce, after some really hard work and help, we have moved into our bigger & better location upstairs at 126 B Avenue. We will be able to offer a much better training area for our students and viewing area for our guests.

I want to acknowledge and thank the following people for helping with our move: Dani, Wendell and Christian Richardson, Courtney Douglas, Kelly Sand and Paul Corriere. It is with their help and working 18 hour days that we were able to conduct classes without missing any training time for our students. This is truly an amazing feat that I must recognize. We are continuing to finalize our final look but classes continue without interruption.

Web Site Update – We are happy to announce that you can now receive your testing requirements, Parent/Teacher testing forms, Tae Kwon Do tenets and much more on our web site. We can save paper and you can have the material at your finger tips 24 hours a day. Simply go to www.coronadotrainingcenter.com Once there – use the navigational bar to go to Tae Kwon Do and then drop down to testing requirements. You will need to use the password to gain entrance. Our password is CTCTKD (all Capitals) hit submit and you are in the protected area to view or print whatever you need.

We will be adding a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday 10:00am class in mid July. More details to follow. The classes will be for adults who want to get in shape but can’t make our evening classes or don’t want our traditional martial arts program.

Finally, please reconnect with our Facebook fan page. We lost our service for several weeks and are trying to rebuild our fan count. Please check if you are still a fan.
